The “Air Bubbles Fix Kit” instructions attached should help you resolve your sand pictures issue. Please watch this demo video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=DCYkSOi__98 Please note that this video doesn’t show the method #2 as in the instructions attached. A new video will be updated in the future.
At the bottom of the instructions you will find the syringe and needle sizes that you will need. You can find these at your local pharmacy, however not all pharmacies want to hand these out. You can try buying them online as well. We offer to sell the syringes and needles for a cost of $14.95 FREE SHIPPING.
Also note that sand pictures due have a limited life span due to their chemical makeup. If your sand picture is completely or extremely empty of liquid then it may not be repairable. We don’t guarantee the fix but in most cases it does help.
Add or Remove air bubbles to your Sand Picture
Method #1 (not enough air)
Using a pair of pliers remove the wooden peg from the side of the picture while still leaving the side piece attached.
Be careful not to lose the black washer.
After removing the picture frame from the stand, tilt the picture on its side to get the sand away from where the needle will enter.
Securely attach the syringe to the needle.
Insert the needle through the hole in the frame where the wooden peg once was.
Carefully push the needle (trying not to bend the needle) into the hole and through the seal.
Add approx. 1.0 cc of air for a large picture, 0.9 cc of air for a medium picture or 0.7 cc of air for a small picture.
Remove the needle. The needle shouldn't compromise the seal.
Reattach the washer and peg.
Method #2 (too much air) –typically older models.
Add approx. 1.0 cc of water for a large picture, 0.9 cc of water for a medium picture or 0.7 cc of water for a small picture. After you add the water then remove the air by drawing out the excess air with the syringe.
Remove the needle. The needle shouldn't compromise the seal.
Reattach the washer and peg.
* Also note that you can repeat this process again if needed. Recommended that you use the other side of the picture.
* If you need any additional syringes or needles you can find them at your local pharmacy. (1cc or 3cc Syringe, 25g x 5/8" or 1" needle).
My partner loves the blue-black combination, and Bill was so helpful in making sure this gift arrived before Christmas. It’s beautiful. Thank you, Bill!
My son received this as a graduation gift 3 years ago. It found a home in our kitchen and I have been BLOWN AWAY by watching it create endless intricate geological art. You really do get the cool layering effects seen on the website… and even better ones. It honestly is a great anxiety balm. I am drawn to it at breakfast often instead of my phone. Watching the slow interaction of sand, bubbles, and gravity provides a dopamine hit that calms rather than hooks you like phone stuff. I love this thing.

Just as mesmerizing as at Grandma's
I found this in Furnace Creek, Death Valley and knew I had to have it. My grandma had one when I was little and I would watch it for hours. She also introduced me to Death Valley. My Exotic Sands is gorgeous and the frame is perfect. Thank you for making such a wonderful treasure.

Center piece
My family had one of these in the 90's. It broke during a move across country and I've always wanted another one. 7 years ago I had to figure out how to google sand picture but luckily found Exotic Sands and remembered that name from when my family had theirs. It has sat in my wish list for years, I was finally able to justify the purchase and it lives as a center piece on my desk. Everyone comments on it and loves to flip and watch it. I flip it on my own 4-5 times a day. I will probably eventually buy another for my home. It shipped very quickly and was packed well. I did not have to contact them with any questions but if they respond as quickly as they ship I am sure they are very helpful
